We know that eating lean protein, and complex carbohydrates from fruits, vegetables and whole grains will not only help us feel better, but also look better. However, calories do count and most of our portion sizes are out of control. Losing weight comes down to pure science. If you cut 500 calories a day, 7 days a week, then you will lose 1 lb (1 lb is equal to 3500 calories).
One of the easiest ways to lose weight is to watch your portions. When I plan my meals, or cook for my family I always use my hands as measuring cups. So here's my secret:
~ 1 serving of lean protein should be no bigger than the size of your palm.
~ 1 serving of complex carbohydrates from fruits and vegetables should be the size of two of your hands cupped together.
~ 1 serving of complex carbohydrates from whole grains should be the size of one of your hands cupped.
It's that simple and really does help to remind me how much I should be eating, so I hope that it helps you too!
