What Should You Eat Before a Workout?

I have had many clients who have thought that working out on an empty stomach is the best way to burn fat...WRONG!  Food is your fuel.  You are not going to try to drive your car all around town if you don't have any gas in the tank.  So please feed your body, especially before a hard workout.

Now that you are going to eat before a workout; what should you eat...Carbs!  Carbohydrates are easy for our bodies to digest and are ideal for giving us that extra energy boost that we'll need for a great workout.  Try to eat 1-2 hours before your workout, so that you are not working out on a too full or empty stomach.  Your pre-workout snack should be around 100-200 calories.

Here are some of my favorite options:
fruit: apple, banana, grapes, pear
whole wheat toast with almond butter
oatmeal
trail mix
greek yogurt
half of a protein bar
rice cake with peanut butter
Ezekiel Bread
**My current favorite is half of an Ezekiel Cinnamon Raisin English Muffin toasted...so good.

This is the one time where I encourage people to eat Complex Carbs with 3 grams of fiber or more, so take advantage of it and enjoy a delicious snack, before you burn it off.

PLF Daily Tip:  Eat 1-2 hours before working out always.  You will feel energized and it will allow you to focus on kicking your butt.  :)
