Why Eating Grass-Fed Beef Should Be An Essential Part of Your Diet

Cows are designed to eat grass, not grains. When you eat grain fed beef, you are getting a product that is nutritionally inferior and may cause long-term health problems. Conventional farming practices also cause environmental problems and can be cruel to animals. Grass fed beef is highly nutritious and should be added to your diet 1-2 times per week.

Switching to grass fed beef reduces your caloric intake- Grass fed beef is considerably leaner than grain fed beef. Because grass fed beef is lower in fat, it is also lower in calories. Switching to grass fed beef can save you 1400 calories per month!

miceGrass fed beef contains essential Fatty Acids that keep you fit and trim- Eating moderate amounts of grass-fed meat for only 4 weeks will give you healthier levels of essential fats, according to a 2011 study in the British Journal of Nutrition. Grass-fed beef is high in heart healthy omega-3's, meanwhile conventional grain/corn feed beef is higher in omega-6 fatty acids.  A new study showed that mice fed the amount of omega-6 fatty acids present in the modern western diet grew fatter and fatter with each succeeding generation.

Grass fed beef is higher in beta-carotene- This carotene is known to help with preventing blindness and other eye problems, increases immunity, helps improve skin disorder, and protects against cancer.

Grass fed beef may increase your metabolism- Grass fed beef is high in B vitamins, a vitamin known to increase your metabolism and energy levels.

Grass fed beef is easier on your stomach- I have a gluten allergy and every time I eat conventional beef, my stomach really hurt. Because we are what we eat and we are what the animal eats, I switched to grass fed beef and I have not had the stomach problems that I once did.

Switching to grass fed beef supports humane treatment to animals- If you have ever read the book
Fast Food Nation or watched the movie "Food Inc.", you will learn just how terrible cows are treated in feed lots. It is enough to make you want to swear off beef altogether (chickens aren't treated any better by the way). Grass fed cows are in their natural environment eating grass whenever they feel like it. These are the true "happy cows"(unlike the false advertising from the real California cheese commercials claim).

I have been a vegetarian, a conventional beef eater, and currently a grass-fed beef eater. From my personal experience, I have never felt so good in my entire life. Ever since I have incorporated grass fed beef in my diet 1-2x per week; I lost 25lbs, my energy increased, my skin improved, and over all I feel great! I also feel the grass fed beef has a superior flavor. So where does one get this delicious beef? Whole Foods is probably your best grocery store, although Sprouts and Trader Joe's carry some (These are usually grass-fed for only a time and grain finished). I order mine from a ranch in Idaho. These cows are grass-fed their entire life. They are considered grass-fed, grass-finished. Their website is www.alderspring.com
