Why You Should Drink Green Tea

Next to water, drinking pure green tea is one of the most beneficial drinks you can consume. There is over 10 years of research backing up how great green tea really is. Here are the many reasons you should brew yourself a mug of green tea.

1.) It is loaded with antioxidants- These antioxidants called "catechins" are very powerful at aiding the body in getting rid of free radicals. Free radicals in our body destroy the cells of our body. The antioxidants help our bodies get rid of the free radicals out of our system.

2.) Helps with the fight against cancer- The antioxidants in green tea regulates and inhibits cancer growth and kills cells that are growing inappropriately.

3.) Green tea and your weight- Green tea has been shown to increase your metabolism. In a Dutch study, participants who drank caffeinated green tea lost more weight, but even those who typically drank the decaf variety saw a decrease in their waistlines and body weight as well.

4.) Green tea and younger looking skin- Green tea's antioxidants help keep your skin from aging. It also has anti inflammatory properties that help with acne. You actually can steep jasmine green tea and put it directly on your face to help improve problem skin.

Green tea has many other health benefits. It is best to get a high quality green tea, the best green tea is the one that is bright green. If the leaves are not bright green they have oxidized too much and have lost a lot of their health benefits. Try to avoid the bottled sugary green tea beverages. They are loaded with sugar or artificial sugars and the green tea they use is inferior.

There are many different types of green tea that you should try and find which one is your favorite. My favorite is Sencha from Peet's Coffee and Tea. With a hectic schedule, I used to drink coffee throughout the day. About 8 years ago, I made the switch to Sencha. My skin cleared up and it helps curb my cravings. I know it has made an even bigger impact on my health because I have seen an improvement in my overall health in the last 8 years.


Types of Green Tea:

Matcha green tea is the healthiest green tea you can drink.
Jasmine fancy is a floral tasting green tea.
Sencha has grassy notes. It is the most popular ever day tea in Japan.
Genmaincha is a blend of roasted rice and green tea.
Dragonwell the most popular green tea in China. It is very aromatic and full bodied.
Gunpowder Green (smoky).

  2. There are decaf versions of green tea. I will research and let you know which brand of decaf is the best.
